Committee Meeting Update
Following a committee meeting last night please see the following
All committee members have agreed to stand for 2023 and we have received no nominations for new committee members.
Club fees for 2023 will remain at £35, we await the cost from the BMFA & CAA etc.
The joining fee that has been withheld for the past few years during COVID has now been removed altogether.
The following two rules will take immediate effect due to safety..
New club rule: Fake receivers are not allowed to be used in models & spot inspections will be carried out. If you suspect you have a fake receiver then please do not use it until you have had this confirmed, please seek advise from the club secretary.
The following is a club rule change…
Currently the club ruling on turbines is as follows…..
2.6.5
Gas Turbine fixed wing models will be restricted to a maximum thrust of 45N. The turbine powered model should have Kevlar fuel cells to reduce the risk of fire should a crash occur. Dual receiver battery redundancy must be installed, and dual receiver setup is also preferable. Fail safe must be programmed and demonstrated to the official.
Updated club ruling as follows…
2.6.5
Pilots wishing to fly gas turbine’s will need to demonstrate their ability to fly the model in the airspace above underwood and provide their model’s for inspection and approval. Fail safe must be programmed and demonstrated to the official upon inspection, once inspected and approved a certificate of authority to fly for each model will be provided. Any changes to the model must be re-submitted for inspection and approval. Turbine flying needs to be booked through the club secretary and no more that 3 jet pilots flying on the same day unless at an event.
Compatible receivers.
This was discussed in length last night and compatible receivers can currently still be used by club members, but please understand that it is your legal responsibility as per item 3.14 of the BMFA members handbook (below for reference).
3.14 Mix-and-Match Tx and Rx
Using different makes of transmitter and receiver is common practice when using 35 MHz equipment (and 2.4 GHz – much of which is now multi-protocol), especially with the large range of aftermarket receivers available. There is a point you must be aware of, however, concerning manufacturers guarantees. A matched Tx and Rx will be warranted by their manufacturer both as individual items and to work together as a pair. If you ‘mix and match’, the individual warranties still apply but you have no guarantee that the pair will work together. In this case you take upon yourself the legal responsibility of making sure that your equipment operates correctly.
We are seeking further advice from the BMFA on this matter but it is our intentions to not allow compatible receivers in models over 3kg
If you would like to discuss anything with me then please get in touch.
Kind regards,
Alan Falconbridge
